There is an amazing number of titles in the GVRL. You can obtain so much information from this site. I choose the Gale Encyclopedia of Cancer, 3rd Ed. This was a 2 volume set. Just looking at the index leads you to areas you might want to research. I searched colon cancer because of family history and found so much information. It was nice to see related articles to research and also newer versions than what we may have in our reference collection. Very up to date information.
When looking up "The adventures of Huckleberry Finn" you could easily find literary criticism. You can also find plot summaries, historical overviews and the different sources. This would be so helpful for students doing research as there is an amazing amount of information to obtain. It was also easy to find what foods contain zinc. This source told me the foods that contain zinc that are easier for the body to absorb and also why we need zinc.
I will recommend this to anyone doing research from middle school students to adults.

Lesson 4 - Proquest
The basic search that I did was on animal cruelty. It was interesting to see how many articles I could find on this subject. There were articles about the laws concerning this subject as well as psychological reasons that this might happen. If you are doing research there are quite a few related subjects to search and depending on your search you can pick your source such as scholarly journals, newspapers or magazines. I also liked that you could sort by relevance. A very good site to find full text articles.
I have enjoyed looking at some of the other posts. I did not look at all of them but checked out a few. You can get more ideas just by looking at these.
When looking at publications, I did a search for Publishers weekly. You can search certain issues and anything from fiction to non-fiction & so on in this publication. If we were missing an issue you would be able to find it here. I just had an ILL request today for a library journal in which our copy was missing. I could have found it here. Nice to know for the future.

SIRS Discoverer
In SIRS discoverer when looking up armadillos there are quite a few articles found. You could find the reading level, see if there are photos, activities to do and so on. I did find with this search that if you only had challenging checked that most of the articles had less about armadillos but the word armadillo could be found in the article. A great place for young kids.
When looking at countries you got a lot of information for doing reports and/or research projects. You can search anything from graphics to reading levels and subjects. The little quizes at the end of the articles are fun and helpful. The maps are amazing. I also looked at the US historical map. The timeline and information for each period is very useful.
SIRS Issues Researcher. I choose animal rights/animal cruelty. There are so many subjects related to this topic so a student should be able to find what they would need. There are also many tools to help you with your research. In the Curriculum Pathfinder it is interesting to see all the research ideas in one subject. In the health subject they covered anything from teenage pregnancy, abortion & birth control to depression & obesity. On the left hand side you could find different courses within this site. Wonderful research guide.
